jeffrey-he’s my son

Editor-  I sat in the kitchen one morning, glued to the computer watching a video that I knew I needed to share on the iamviable fan page.  It was a video by singer Mark Schultz in which he shared the story behind the song, "What it Means to be Loved."  The video moved me to tears.  Mark's wife is a nurse and she had come home from work one day and told him a story about a couple at work.  The Lord then dropped a song into his lap, it was about a doctor telling a brand new pregnant mom the news, that her baby won't live very long, asking her what she wanted to do, and she responds, "I want to ...[Read more]

robert-behind every facade

The campers had gone home, our Joni and Friends staff had packed up our things, all traces of Family Retreat were put away until I walked into the office of the conference center the next morning.  My husband and I were staying on an extra week in the beautiful little RV park at Mission Springs in the Santa Cruz Mountains, tucked up against the hillside, surrounded by the statuesque redwoods.  I had gone in to speak to the office manager.  There on the counter was a Happy Graham that someone had anonymously left for the conference center staff.  Happy Grahams are something that is a long ...[Read more]

grandma’s gertie

Submitted by Heide My name is Heide and I am the proud new Grandmother of a beautiful little girl, Gertie.  She is my first Grandchild.  I love her more than words can fully express.  My Granddaughter is beautiful, smart, and happy & I am truly thankful for her presence in my life. As a result of Amniotic Banding Syndrome (ABS), Gertie was born without her left hand.  The irregularity was discovered during a routine ultrasound, when my daughter, Janine was only 14 weeks pregnant.  Janine was quickly referred to a fetal specialist, who performed a 3-D ultrasound and confirmed her ...[Read more]

dorothy-God had another plan

Story Submitted by Dorothy "Congratulations, it's a beautiful, healthy, baby girl!"  My parents held me with pride on that November day in 1957.  Only a short 8 months later, their little girl was barely hanging onto life, her body being consumed by a virus called polio. Prayers from a devoted grandmother are why I am alive today.  I was the 23rd child to be afflicted with the virus secondary to a defective injection.  How many came after me, I don't know.  80% of the 23 died from the virus, but for my life God had another plan... The virus left me without the usage of my lower ...[Read more]

elizabeth- in His presence

One day, my assistant, Judy Arnold and I had a wheelchair pick up to make for Joni's ministry, Wheels for the World.  A woman had called me wanting to donate a brand new wheelchair that hadn't worked out for her.  We drove up in front of a tiny, humble home.  Our knock was met with a cheerful, "Come on in!" And so began our relationship with Elizabeth Carver-Leedy, a 34 year old woman, diagnosed 6 years before  with a brain tumor. Elizabeth grew up in a Christian home.  Her father a pastor, she was always very involved in church activities while at the same time, had a great need to feel ...[Read more]
